AdBlue In Diesel

Throughout Dorset we are encountering an increasing number of occurrences of AdBlue contamination when somebody has poured AdBlue directly into their diesel fuel tank. This is partially stemming from motorists not understanding the way to work with it (remember: it's actually not a fuel additive), and partly due to the fact that the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are generally right close to one another on the vehicle.

Now, what's the problem with having AdBlue in your diesel car? Because the product is predominantly deionised water, it is like putting water into your tank. Diesel and water do not ever mix in any way and attempting to run a diesel car on water isn't going to work. Also, the urea is very corrosive to the fuel system lines and seals and is prone to crystalising, blocking injectors and filters.

In case you poured AdBlue in the fuel tank drain it asap. And definitely be careful not to switch on the engine - not even to move it from the pump. In the instance that you did start the vehicle you will in all probability need to have the whole fuel system cleaned and filters replaced.

Water contaminated fuel

Fuel contaminated with water, no matter whether it is unleaded or diesel, is actually a serious condition to take care of in a car - specifically in present-day common-rail engines.
